"Das Licht der Morgenröte" erzählt die Geschichte der Operation Overlord. Es zeichnet eine der größten Militäroperationen nach, die der Mensch seit Sommer 1941 – als Churchill und Roosevelt das Thema zum ersten Mal angesprochen haben – bis zum 6. Juni 1944 geplant hat. Er entschlüsselt die Strategie Hitlers, sie zum Scheitern zu bringen. Der Film erzählt diesen entscheidenden Wendepunkt im Zweiten Weltkrieg, an dem Fragen der Geopolitik (das schwierige Bündnis zwischen London, Moskau und Washington), die verschiedenen militärischen Strategien und technologischen Fähigkeiten sowie das Schicksal der jungen Soldaten, die den Atlantikwall angriffen, behandelt wurden wird einen hohen Preis zahlen.
