Eine von Eugene Buck Motivation für den film war seine raue Kreuz-Untersuchung während seine Entführer' erste versuche, im Oktober 1913, als die Verteidiger warfen ihn als verwirrt und unzuverlässig Zeuge gegen die idealistischen Freiheitskämpfern. Auf film, den er abbilden kann, die Verfolgung, die Schießereien, seiner Entführung und seinem Freund den Mord so wie er Zeugnis gegeben hatte. Reenacting das Verbrechen auf film war der beste Rache—und ein Weg zu Ehren der Opfer des stellvertretenden Ortiz, ein zwanzig-Jahres-Polizei-veteran und, für die Zeit, eine seltene Mexikanische American lawman.
