Basil Rathbone

Sir Basil Rathbone, KBE, MC, Kt (13 Juni 1892 in Johannesburg – 21. Juli 1967, New York City) war ein Südafrikanischer Schauspieler. Er stieg auf Prominenz in England als Shakespeare-Bühne, Schauspieler und ging auf Sie zu erscheinen in über 70 Filmen, vor allem Kostüm-Dramen, swashbucklers, und gelegentlich auch horror-Filme. Er porträtiert höflichen Schurken oder moralisch mehrdeutige Zeichen, wie Murdstone in David Copperfield (1935) und Sir Guy von Gisbourne in Die Abenteuer des Robin Hood (1938). Seine bekannteste Rolle wurde jedoch heldenhaft—, dass der Sherlock Holmes in vierzehn Hollywood-Filmen, die zwischen 1939 und 1946 und in einer radio-Serie. Seine spätere Karriere inklusive Broadway-und TV-Arbeit, er erhielt einen Tony Award im Jahr 1948 als Bester Schauspieler in einem Theaterstück.
