Die frisch vermählte Susan reist nach Haiti zu ihrem Mann, der dort als britischer Konsul arbeitet. Im Haus ihres Gatten macht sie nicht nur Bekanntschaft mit dessen nymphomanischer Schwester, sondern auch mit der mysteriösen Bediensteten Inès, die scheinbar in einem Voodoo-Kult involviert ist. Schon in der ersten Nacht wird Susan von dunklen, erotischen Alpträumen heimgesucht, die sie erst zum Teil einer Voodoo-Zeremonie und später auch zur Mörderin werden lassen.
