Carlitos hat einen sehnlichen Wunsch und ein großes Ziel: Er will von einer liebevollen Familie adoptiert und ein großer Fußballer werden. Don Hippolito, der Direktor des Waisenhauses, in dem Carlitos lebt, ist zwar viel zu korrupt, um sich wirklich um das Wohl seiner Schützlinge zu kümmern, aber Carlitos hat Freunde, auf die er sich verlassen kann: Seine drei besten Freunde sind Zecke, Flocke und Erdbirne und gemeinsam gelingt es ihnen, Carlitos bei den Testspielen der Jugend-Nationalmannschaft unterzubringen. Auch der Sportlehrer Diego unterstützt Carlitos kräftig auf seinem Weg zur Junioren-Europameisterschaft. Wird Carlitos jetzt die Ausdauer und die Konzentration aufbringen, um sich wirklich unter den ganz Großen durchzusetzen? Und sind die liebevollen Eltern, die sich Carlitos so sehr wünscht, am Ende vielleicht schon ganz nah?
