In einem erbarmungslosen Krieg zerschmettert das Heilige Britannische Reich die japanischen Streitkräfte und erobert das Land im Handumdrehen. Durch diese Niederlage verliert Japan seine Unabhängigkeit und wird zur elften Kolonie der Weltmacht. Die Japaner werden von nun an als „Elevens" bezeichnet, in Gettos eingepfercht und bekommen sämtliche Grundrechte aberkannt. Doch es regt sich Widerstand gegen die Besatzer: Lelouch, von seinem Vater, dem Kaiser des Britannischen Reiches, verstoßen und nach Japan deportiert, will die Großmacht zerstören. Mithilfe der übernatürlichen Kraft des Geass, der Macht der Könige, kann er jeden dazu bringen, seinem Befehl zu gehorchen. Für Lelouch beginnt eine unglaubliche Schachpartie gegen sein eigenes Heimatland, bei der die Elevens, die britannischen Soldaten und die japanischen Rebellen die Figuren darstellen ...
