Als herauskommt, daß Agnès, die Tochter des angesehenen General Dumont ein brisantes Skandalbuch über die schöne Gesellschaft geschrieben hat, will er sie in ein Internat abschieben, doch stattdessen entkommt sie ihm nach Paris, um bei ihrem Bruder Hubert unterzutauchen, einem angeblich reichen Künstler. Mit dem Journalisten Daniel und dem Fotografen Roger im Schlepptau, denen sie erfolgreich etwas von ihren schriftstellerischen Ambitionen vorgeflunkert hat, nistet sie sich unbemerkt bei ihrem Bruder ein und versetzt eine wertvolle Balzac-Erstausgabe, von der sie annimmt, daß sie ihm gehört.
