Captain Adam Corbett (Calhoun), ein schneidiger Ex-Offizier der Armee Seiner Majestät, wird in eine Intrige verwickelt, als er sich bereit erklärt, Colonel Wilfred Jackson (Ian Hunter) und dessen Tochter Pauline (Patricia Bredin) auf einer gefährlichen Schatzsuche zu begleiten. Im Besitz eines Viertels einer Karte treffen sie bald auf drei mysteriöse Gestalten, von denen jede ein Fragment und eine geheime Agenda hat. Nur mit einem Schwert und seinem Verstand bewaffnet, kämpft Corbett gegen Räuber, Soldaten und Diebe, während er die Expedition zur Insel Monte Cristo begleitet, wo Verrat und Reichtum auf ihn warten.
