Ben Kirby gelingt es, ein prachtvolles Wildpferd - den Leithengst - einzufangen. Nur widerstrebend verkauft er das Pferd und macht sich schon wenig später auf die Suche nach dem Tier. Er entdeckt den Hengst schließlich auf einem Jahrmarkt bei einer Rodeovorführung und entführt ihn heimlich. Als sich jedoch der Händler das wertvolle Pferd zurückholen will, trampelt ihn der Hengst tot. Nun droht seine Erschießung. Kirby flieht mit dem Tier in die Wildnis - wo ein Berglöwe lauert.
