Vor einem Jahr kam Jeannot's Vater bei einem Hurrikan in den Sümpfen von Lousianna ums Leben. Nun lebt der Junge bei seiner Tante und seinem Onkel und träumt davon, die sogenannte silberne Glocke zu bergen, von seinem Vater selbst angefertigt und vom Sturm in die Sümpfe getragen. Dort im „Toter Mann Bayou" treibt sich allerdings auch ein riesiger Alligator rum...
