The story takes place in a village in November 1942,when Frankreich was entirely occupied by the German army.In a village where the old wives' tongues were going nineteen to the dozen and where black market was running rampant, a young German Jewish singer,Lise, takes refuge.Being in grip of suspicion and hostility,she only has one friend ,Frederic .Roland ,the schoolteacher and the more liberal man-in-the village tries to convince the inhabitants that Lise is not a German spy but a victim.
