Ein rookie NPR reporter auf seine erste Aufgabe, die die bewaffnete Besetzung von Wounded Knee in South Dakota im Jahre 1973, wird behandelt, als den Feind und letztlich die Verhaftung durch das FBI für trotzt eine Staatliche Nachrichtensperre einbetten mit militanten Indianer. Vierzig Jahre später, trifft er auf eine Yurok Indian Fischer in Kalifornien, einen Mann, den er unwissentlich fotografiert hatten, während der 10-wöchigen Besetzung. Die beiden werden Freunde, Reisen zurück zu den Dakotas und später in der pipeline-Proteste in Standing Rock, zu untersuchen, die das Vermächtnis von 1970 ist Aktivismus in der indischen Land. Unterdessen ist der reporter startet eine neue Untersuchung des Mordes an seinem ehemaligen Mitbewohner, ein Kanadischer Eingeborener, eine Rolle gespielt bei Wounded Knee. Er Hintern Köpfe mit dem FBI erneut, dieses mal über das Büro der angeblichen Praxis der "snitch-UMMANTELUNG" die Toten Frauen als Informant.
