Ein gewaltiger Riss im Raum-Zeit-Kontinuum bedroht das gesamte Gefüge des Universums. Auf der Erde beschäftigt das Phänomen die Bevölkerung sowie die Wissenschaftler – die Crew von Planet Express wird auserkoren, unter der Leitung von Professor Farnsworth den Riss zu erkunden. Fry, der gerade mit seiner polygamen Freundin Colleen Schluss gemacht hat und seitdem in einem tiefen Gefühlsloch steckt, dringt hinter die Öffnung im Weltall vor und entdeckt ein weiteres Universum. Währenddessen schließt sich Bender einer Untergrundbewegung von Robotern bei, nach anfänglicher Begeisterung ist er aber von den Idealen der Organisation enttäuscht. Schließlich eskaliert die Situation als Fry aus dem Riss zurückkommt - denn er ist nicht allein, ein riesiges Monster in Planetenform mit tausenden Tentakeln hat sich seiner bemächtigt.
