Halfaouine heißt die Altstadt von Tunis. Hier lebt der zwölfjährige Noura (Selim, der Neffe des Regisseurs). Wegen seiner kindlichen Ausstrahlung darf er noch immer mit seiner Mutter im Hamam baden. Angestachelt von zwei Freunden, kundschaftet er die Anatomie der Frauen aus… Der Dokumentarfilmer Férid Boughedir spürte der eigenen Kindheit in den Siebzigern nach und gestattet Einblicke in die orientalische Kultur, die Fremden normalerweise verborgen bleiben. Dem Publikum der meisten arabischen Länder wird der unprätentiöse, charmante und humorvolle Film bis heute von der Zensur vorenthalten.
