Ein Familientreffen auf einem Schiff wird zum Wendepunkt im Leben des 39-jährigen Ingenieurs Markus. Als sein Sohn Adam (4) von der gemeinsamen Toilettenpause mit Großmutter Renate eine kleine Schnittwunde davonträgt, erinnert sich Markus zum ersten Mal daran, was seine Mutter ihm angetan hat, als er selbst noch ein Kind war. Markus und seine Frau Monika sehen sich mit einer undenkbaren Wahrheit konfrontiert, einem Vergehen, das man einer Mutter nicht zugetraut hätte.
