Der film spielt im Jahre 1943 in eine Irrenanstalt in das Land. Aber dies ist eine ungewöhnliche Klinik: es gibt mehrere unheilbaren schizophrenen Fälle, das Personal ist etwas seltsam, und ein Schriftsteller hat freiwillig die Klinik betreten, weil er "eigenartig" und ein Drogenabhängiger. Dann die Deutsche Gestapo eintrifft. Der Kommandant bittet um die Liste der Patienten, sortiert die "arischen" ärzte, die sich von den anderen auf die Rückreise, und Herden, alle in LKWs für den Abtransport in die Vernichtungslager. Ein junger Arzt momentan entweicht durch abdecken sich selbst unter einem Berg von Wäsche in den Keller, und dann entkommt in den Wald gerade als die Nazi-Soldaten erscheinen.
