Nur ein Drittel der von König Arthus ausgesandten Ritter kehren nach Jahren der vergeblichen Suche nach dem heiligen Gral zurück. Doch damit nicht genug der schlechten Nachrichten: Viele haben den Auftrag ihres Königs für Beutezüge missbraucht, der nun seinerseits seine Männer zur öffentlichen Buße auffordert. Einer der wenigen edlen Rückkehrer ist Lancelot der allerdings ein dunkles Geheimnis hat. Er liebt Guenievre die Frau des Königs. Hinter dem Rücken des Königs kommen sich die beiden näher – eine Konstellation, die wohl nur in einer Tragödie enden kann.
