Meet the People verwischt die Grenze zwischen Dokumentarfilm und Fiktion, Wahrheit und Künstlichkeit und präsentiert vierzehn "Charaktere", die in Großaufnahmen mit sprechenden Köpfen in die Kamera schauen und über ihr Leben und ihre Träume sprechen. Die Intimität und Ehrlichkeit ihrer bruchstückhaften, "autobiografischen" Erzählungen ist illusorisch; der Abspann verrät, dass es sich bei diesen Menschen um professionelle Schauspieler handelt, die fiktive Rollen spielen und ein Drehbuch lesen.
