Südafrika 1981. Wie alle weißen jungen Männer muss auch Nicholas Van der Swart einen zweijährigen Militärdienst leisten, um das Apartheid-Regime in Grenzkriegen vor der Bedrohung durch den Kommunismus und die sogenannte „Schwarze Gefahr" zu verteidigen. Dass Nicholas schwul ist, darf in der Truppe niemand wissen. Der brutale, unmenschliche Militär-Drill ist schon so kaum zu ertragen. Wen die Truppe als schwul erkannt hat, wird als „moffie" beschimpft, gilt als schwach, verweiblicht und illegal – und hat damit ganz verloren. Als sich Nicholas in seinen Kameraden Dylan verliebt, müssen die beiden ihre Liebe um jeden Preis geheim halten...
