Mr. O ' s Book of the Dead ist der Letzte einer Trilogie experimenteller Filme über Kazuo Ohno, Mitbegründer der modernen japanischen Stil-Tanz, bekannt als butoh, gemacht mit dem Regisseur Chiaki Nagano in einem Zeitraum, in dem er im Ruhestand aus dem öffentlichen Leistung, und kurz bevor er begann, die Welt zu bereisen als solo-Tänzerin mit seinem berühmten Werk Bewundern La Argentinien. In dem film, Ohno führt eine Truppe von seltsam gekleidete, geschminkte und gestikulierenden Tänzer durch eine Reihe von Landschaften, die abwechselnd üppig, einsam und surreal.
