Wir begegnen den umstrittenen kroatischen Regisseurs Lordan Zafranovic im Freiwilligen Exil in Prag. Der film folgt seinen Aufstieg von einem talentierten Außenseiter zum gefeierten Jugoslawische Regisseur des gefeierten Kriegsfilm "Eine Okkupation in 26 Bildern". Seine Lebensgeschichte ist eine unkonventionelle Darstellung von Aufstieg und fall, der zeigt, Kompromisse gemacht, um zu überleben künstlerisch während des Kommunismus, sowie die verpassten Chancen und Fehleinschätzungen, führte zu seiner Unfähigkeit zur Anpassung in späteren Jahren. Ist die charismatische Zafranovic eine nationale Verräter oder Opfer der historischen Umstände, in denen die einzige Sache, die er tun wollte, in seinen eigenen Worten, war er selbst zu sein und Filme machen?
