Wir schreiben das 1987, die frischgebackenen Highschoolabsolventinnen Romy und Michelle wollen ihr Glück in der Stadt der Stars suchen. Deshalb kehren sie dem verschlafenen Nest, in dem sie aufgewachsenen sind, den Rücken und machen sich auf nach Hollywood. Ihr Ziel ist es, in den hippen Club Ozone zu kommen, denn dort verkehrt die A-Prominenz. Bis sie das nötige Geld und die richtigen Outfits haben, gehen jedoch drei Jahre ins Land.
