Dr. Watson, wer diente in der englischen Streitkräfte und wurde in den Krieg in Afghanistan, scheidet und kehrt zu seiner Heimat, in England. Da die finanzielle situation des Arztes ist sehr prekär, seinem langjährigen Freund Mr. Stamford bietet ihm ein Zimmer mieten in dem Haus in 221 B Baker Street, die ist vermietet von einer älteren Dame - Mrs. Hudson. Die zweite vermietete Zimmer ist schon besetzt von einem anderen gentleman - der geheimnisvolle Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Holmes macht einen zweideutigen Eindruck auf Watson. Er führt komplexe Chemische Experimente mit Blut, spielt Geige, hat das tiefste wissen über Zigarren-Asche, London Schmutz-und Strafrecht, aber zur gleichen Zeit zeigt eine völlige Unkenntnis der bekannten Wahrheiten (zum Beispiel die Tatsache, dass die Erde sich um die Sonne dreht), liest keine Belletristik, sowie Bücher über Geschichte und Philosophie. Zur gleichen Zeit, sehr seltsam Besucher immer wieder zu Holmes, und auf dem Tisch er hat Porträts von Persönlichkeiten, die von einem widerlich Aussehen. Also, Watson...
