Der neunjährige Totò reist mit seiner Mutter Giovanna und deren Freund Bob in die Toskana. Dort nämlich hat Bob ein eindrucksvolles, aber arg heruntergekommenes Schloss geerbt. Während Bob das Anwesen verkaufen will, schließt Totò auf der Stelle Freundschaft mit den beiden Schlosshunden. Und auch Giovanna findet das adelige Ambiente ganz schick. Um zu Geld zu kommen, gründet sie eine Pension für die Lieblinge betuchter Hundebesitzer. Doch eine Immobiliengesellschaft plant in der Gegend ein Neubaugroßprojekt und schreckt weder vor Brandstiftung noch vor einer manipulierten Erbschaftssteuer, die Bob nicht bezahlen kann, zurück.
