Superman leitet diese Zeilen an Kandor, die Glocke der Stadt, die er vertritt seine eigenen traumatischen Vergangenheit, denn er ist der einzige überlebende eines Planeten, der zerstört wurde. Kandor jetzt sitzt, eingefroren in der Zeit, eine dauerhafte Erinnerung an seine Unfähigkeit zu entkommen, die Vergangenheit, und seine entfremdete Beziehung zu seiner jetzigen Welt. Für uns, Kandor ist ein Bild von einer Zeit, die nie war — die utopische Stadt der Zukunft, die nie kam zu sein.
