Der film erzählt die Geschichte des Boteros, a middle-class-mexikanischen Familie zu kämpfen, gegen die Armut nach dem Tod Ihres Vaters. Ignacia (Egurrola) ist die Boteros Mutter, einer verzweifelten Frau, die wählt, sich zu opfern, das Schicksal Ihrer drei älteren Kinder, um Sie zu schützen, Gabriel (Laguardia) der jüngste. Sie glaubt, dass Gabriel mit dem Aufstieg in die Gesellschaftliche Struktur zurück bringen und das verlorene Vermögen der Familie. Doch das Schicksal hat andere Pläne für die Boteros und Tragödie überwinden werden, irgendwann. Basierend auf dem Roman des Nobelpreisträgers Naguib Mahfouz.
