DAS NEUBACHER PROJEKT erzählt die Geschichte von Marcus J. Carney und seiner Familie mütterlicherseits. Am Anfang scheinen alle Portraitierten großteils gesunde, durchschnittlich neurotische Mitglieder einer durchschnittlichen Familie zu sein. Der Filmemacher versucht die Nazi-Familiengeschichte aufzuarbeiten, Schritt für Schritt entdeckt er jedoch tiefere Verstrickungen und Schichten der Verdrängung. Die Hauptbeziehung im Film entwickelt sich zwischen dem Filmemacher und seiner Mutter, die während der Dreharbeiten an Krebs erkrankt.
