Inspiriert von B. Travens Roman über das Leben von Andres Ugalde, einem Fuhrmann im vorrevolutionären Mexiko der 1920er Jahre, erzählt der Film von seinem heutigen Wiedergänger, einem Lkw-Fahrer, der für ein kleines europäisches Transportunternehmen arbeitet. Gefangen in einer Jagd nach Profit, ist der hart arbeitende „Andrès" Teil eines Systems, das die Männer auslaugt, die es am Laufen halten – was am Ende zum Zusammenbruch des Systems selbst führt.
