Die Geschichte folgt die Kosovo-Partisanen-Helden, bekannt als Lisi (Eiche), aus dem zweiten Weltkrieg Tage, die anschließende Befreiung, bis Mitte der 1960er Jahre. Lisi war ein tapferer Krieger, doch er und seine generation bleibt weitgehend ungebildet. Aber sein Neffe beginnt als Kurier, und wird Arzt danach.
