Bukarest 1989 – das letzte Jahr der Ceaușescu-Diktatur. Eva lebt mit ihren Eltern und ihrem siebenjährigen Bruder Lalalilu zusammen. Eines Tages zerstören Eva und ihr Freund in der Schule versehentlich eine Büste von Ceaușescu. Sie müssen vor einem Disziplinarausschuss ihre Tat gestehen, und Eva wird der Schule verwiesen und in eine Besserungsanstalt eingewiesen. Dort lernt sie Andrei kennen und beschließt, mit ihm aus Rumänien zu fliehen. Lalalilu ist überzeugt, dass Ceaușescu der Hauptgrund für Evas Flucht ist. Gemeinsam mit seinen Schulfreunden schmiedet er einen Plan, den Diktator zu töten.
