Der erste Film, basierend auf den Hergé Charakter "Tim und Struppi" beginnt, wenn Temistocle Paparanic, ein Alter Freund von Kapitän Haddock, stirbt und er erbt Paparanic Schiff, "La Toison d 'or" oder "Das goldene Vlies". Tim und Haddock Reisen nach Istanbul, um es zu sammeln, nur um herauszufinden, dass seine ein wertlos aussehende Wrack. Jedoch schon bald eine gewisse Anton Karabine bietet ihm 600.000 Pfund für ihn. Wenn Schellfisch weigert sich, zu verkaufen, er ist fast getötet. Nach einer Weile, die Wahrheit kommt heraus: Paparanic und seine crew führte einen Staatsstreich in Tetaragua, einem kleinen lateinamerikanischen Land. Nach dem Urteil das Land für drei Jahre, Paparanic Links mit dem gold der Nationalbank, und nun seine alten schiffskameraden sind, um zu versuchen, von ihm bekommen.
