Durch die Zeit der Dreharbeiten, der Druck des Krieges hatte, führte die Regierung eine Verkürzung der Ausbildung, und erweitern Sie das Alter der Rekruten. Yokaren sehr selektiv war und somit ein Objekt der Faszination und Begierde für Jungen und junge Männer. In diesem Marine–geförderte film, Setsuko Hara spielt die Tochter der Familie, die oft unterhält Rekruten auf Ihre Tage aus—ein Surrogat Schwester zu viele Auszubildende. Ihre fragile jüngeren Bruder strebt an dem Programm teilnehmen, wird aber abgelehnt. Mit Ausdauer und viel Unterstützung von Hara und Ihre Mutter, er überwindet seine Schwächen und wird zu einem Flieger.
