Ein Dokumentarfilm über das Leben der alkoholische Schriftsteller Malcolm Lowry, durchsetzt mit Lesungen von Lowry ' s Werk von Richard Burton. Lowry war geboren und in England erzogen. Er zog nach Mexiko im Jahre 1936, wo er lebte in der Nähe des Vulkans Popocatepetl, auf eine Zulage von seinem Vater. Dort, zwischen betrunkenen Kämpfe, begann er zu schreiben-seine eine wichtige Roman "Unter dem Vulkan", der findet auf dem mexikanischen Tag der Toten. Er dauert acht Jahre, es zu beenden, schreiben die meisten, während das Leben in einer Hütte in British Kolumbien, Kanada.
