Nur nach dem amerikanischen Bürgerkrieg, Geschäftsmann und Erfinder Victor Barbicane erfindet eine neue Energiequelle, die so genannte Power X. Er plant, es zu benutzen, um power-Raketen, und um sein potential zeigen, die er plant, senden Sie ein Projektil zum Mond.
