1932 erblickte eine der liebenswertesten, positivsten und optimistischen Zeichentrickfiguren überhaupt das Licht der Welt: Der gutherzige Einfaltspinsel Goofy gab sein Cartoon-Debüt in Micky's Revue und entwickelte sich alsbald zum treuen Begleiter und gutem Freund der Maus. Zunächst jedoch unter dem Namen Dippy Dawg - was so viel bedeutet wie verrückter dämlicher Hund. Erst 1936 sollte „The Goof" oder „Goofy" – wie zunächst nur die Zeichner ihn nannten – seinen endgültigen Namen erhalten: Goofy heißt auf Englisch so viel wie blöd oder doof, was in diesem Fall aber keineswegs herabwürdigend oder beleidigend zu verstehen ist, sondern vielmehr als liebenswerter Spitzname.
