Nach dem Absenden seiner kränkelnden Frau Alice (Gemma Jones) in einem Pflegeheim, im Ruhestand Akademische James Parkin (John Hurt) geht zu bleiben, an einem winterlichen out-of-season-hotel, das Sie besucht zusammen. Spaziergang an einem einsamen Strand findet er einen ring mit einer lateinischen Inschrift, die übersetzt "Wer Ist Das, Wer Kommt". Er nimmt den ring zurück zu dem hotel, aber nachts hört er lautes klopfen an seiner Tür, obwohl er der einzige Gast, sowie das sehen die in weiß gekleidete Erscheinung, folgt ihm an den Strand. Er ist scheinbar das Opfer von übernatürlichen Rache. Aber wer ist der Rächer?
