Orang-Utans haben zu fast 97 Prozent die gleiche DNA wie wir Menschen und gehören deshalb zu unseren nächsten Verwandten. Noch vor 100 Jahren streiften etwa 600.000 von ihnen durch die Regenwälder Borneos und Sumatras. Inzwischen haben Wilderei, die Zerstörung ihres Lebensraumes und illegaler Tierhandel dafür gesorgt, dass die Orang-Utans zu den weltweit gefährdetsten Tierarten gehören. Allerdings gibt es Hoffnung. Ein internationales Team betreibt auf Borneo eine Station für Orang-Utans, um verletzte oder elternlose Tiere aufzupäppeln und sie möglichst wieder auszuwildern.
