Burroughs (1914-1997), basierend auf nie gesehenes Filmmaterial aus seinem Besuch in Dänemark im Oktober 1983, und aus seinen späteren Jahren in Lawrence, Kansas. Nachdem er verbrachte mehr als ein Vierteljahrhundert außerhalb der Vereinigten Staaten, in Mexiko, Tanger, Paris und London, Burroughs kehrte nach New York im Jahr 1974. Kurz danach begann er touring und das Lesen seiner Arbeit zu neuen Generationen von Lesern und damit etabliert sich als eine Kult-Figur. Der film konzentriert sich auf Burroughs' einzigartiges talent als Darsteller, und auf seine späteren arbeiten, vor allem, was ist bekannt als Die Letzte Trilogie. Neben dem historischen Filmmaterial gibt es neue interviews mit Freunden und Kollegen.
