Nach einem Doppelmord an zwei angesehenen Personen einer sizilianischen Kleinstadt, beginnt der politisch linksgerichtete Professor Laurana eigene Nachforschungen anzustellen, da eines der Opfer Morddrohungen bekommen hatte. Steckt hinter dem Mord wirklich nur ein privates Motiv oder hatte der Tote, wie langsam aber sicher herauskommt, tatsächlich Informationen über einen mächtigen Mann der Kleinstadt, die er der Justiz übergeben wollte. Gemeinsam mit der Witwe beginnt Laurana mit seinen beschränkten Mitteln nachzuforschen und ahnt nicht, auf welch gefährliches Terrain er sich damit begibt...
