John Williams zählt zu den weltweit populärsten und erfolgreichsten Filmkomponisten unserer Zeit. Besondere Berühmtheit hat er vor allem durch seine Arbeit für die Regisseure Steven Spielberg und George Lucas erlangt. Neben seinen unzähligen Filmmusiken komponierte Williams auch Symphonien und Solokonzerte sowie kürzere Stücke für Orchester beziehungsweise Ensembles. Weitere musikalische Glanzpunkte bilden die Themen aus den Filmen „Amistad", „Anatevka" („Fiddler on the Roof") oder „Catch Me If You Can" und die Kultmelodien aus „Star Wars".
