John Williams zählt zu den weltweit populärsten und erfolgreichsten Filmkomponisten unserer Zeit. Besondere Berühmtheit hat er vor allem durch seine Arbeit für die Regisseure Steven Spielberg und George Lucas erlangt. Neben seinen unzähligen Filmmusiken komponierte Williams auch Symphonien und Solokonzerte sowie kürzere Stücke für Orchester beziehungsweise Ensembles. Im Laufe seiner Karriere wurde Williams mit mindestens zwölf Grammys, drei Emmys, vier Golden Globes, fünf Oscars und sieben BAFTA-Awards ausgezeichnet. Das Repertoire dieses Konzertabends umfasst neben einer Reihe bekannter Filmmelodien auch ein Solo des Stargeigers Itzhak Perlman, dessen Zusammenarbeit mit John Williams die Musik zu „Schindlers Liste" unvergesslich werden ließ. Weitere musikalische Glanzpunkte bilden die Themen aus den Filmen „Amistad", „Anatevka" („Fiddler on the Roof") oder „Catch Me If You Can" und die Kultmelodien aus „Star Wars".
