Die Amerikanerin Anne Beddingfeld beobachtet am Flughafen von Kairo, wie ein Mann von einem Auto überfahren wird. Ein Mann in braunem Anzug gibt sich als Arzt aus. Aber anstatt dem Unfallopfer wirklich zu helfen, verfolgt er offensichtlich andere Absichten. Er interessiert sich ausschließlich für eine Nachricht, die der Überfahrene bei sich hat. Als Anne herausfindet, dass es sich dabei um eine Einladung zu einem Geheimtreffen auf hoher See handelt, begibt sie sich selbst auf Verbrecherjagd.
